Privacy

Short version: nothing is measured unless you press Accept in the cookie banner. If you decline or ignore it, no analytics script loads and no analytics cookies are set.

What I measure and why

I want to know which projects people look at, which links they use, whether the contact form works and whether pages load fast. No ads, no selling data, no profiles across other sites. When you send the contact form, analytics only learns that a message was sent, never what you wrote or your email address.

Google Analytics 4

  • Run by Google. Counts page views and the events above, using a random ID in a first-party cookie (_ga).
  • Google signals and ad personalization are off.
  • Data can be processed in the United States. Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, which is what covers that transfer.
  • Event data is kept for 14 months, then deleted by Google.

Microsoft Clarity

  • Used for session replays and heatmaps: where people scroll and click, so I can fix confusing pages.
  • All page text and inputs are masked in recordings, so Clarity sees the layout and the clicks, not what you typed or read.
  • It only loads after you accept. Declining tells Clarity consent was withdrawn and stops it.

Where the raw data ends up

The raw Google Analytics events are exported to BigQuery and copied into my own data platform, where I build reports on them. The BigQuery copy is stored in the EU, in my own Google Cloud project (geekindata-analytics). Same events, same rules: no names, no email addresses, nothing you typed into a form.

Changing your mind

Open (Cookie settings, also in the footer) and press Decline. Measurement stops, the analytics cookies are deleted and nothing more is sent. Clearing site data in your browser does the same.
